|
SunGold Foods is a custom-roasting facility, meaning we collaborate with our customers to develop a specification for the
products that meet their needs. We begin our Quality System with some basic programs, including:
- Internal Quality Systems
- HACCP Programs
- Kosher Certification
- Supplier Management

Dry roasting of inshell sunflowers requires both science and art to produce the specific product our customers require.
With this in mind, we use science-based equipment to test moisture and salt to help determine and maintain the specifications
our customers desire, whether it is a darker verses a lighter roast, or higher salt content verses lower. Because natural
fluctuations occur in agricultural commodities, there is an undeniable art to roasting, requiring human expertise. Our Master
Roaster ensures that each batch of product has the taste, texture, and look our customers desire.

Quality roasting starts with the right oil. We use NuSun Sunflower oil as our roasting medium for two important reasons.
First, it’s healthy, containing zero trans-fats. Second, it has minimal taste properties, so the natural flavor of the product
shines through. We continuously filter the oil and test it for free fatty acids to maximize freshness. Again, we use science
to test moisture and salt contents to meet our customers’ varying specifications.

From raw form to finished deliciousness, our quality assurance personnel perform regular checks on all items. These checks
are collected in a statistical-process control software, which allows us to control our process of maintaining consistent
quality attributes. This helps us to continually improve and tighten our parameters to develop that perfect custom product
for each customer.

SunGold Foods not only custom roasts, but also custom packages our products. We’ll work with you to determine the correct
packaging material, size, and appearance to make a dynamic first impression.
The packaging of the product is also important for maintaining and lengthening the integrity of the product’s shelf life.
With this in mind, we use nitrogen flushing to remove oxygen from each bag to prevent oxidation of the products. Right on
sight, we test residual oxygen bag weights, coding, package appearance, and pressurized seal testing. All of this is maintained
in a statistical-process control database
